Proofreading
I proofread your manuscript to remove errors in spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation. Grammatical mistakes can come across as errors in logic, since they confuse the reader and make the plot of your book appear disconnected or flawed. Proofreading focuses on catching errors such as sentence fragments, subject-verb agreement, pronoun referents, run-ons, ineffective or inappropriate verb forms, and other grammatical issues, especially those that Microsoft Word's spelling and grammar check routinely ignores.
Editing. I focus on various components in the editing process:
a. Advice and counsel:
I take meticulous care of yyou and your book. Therefore, while I am working with you on your manuscript, you will have continual access to me by phone, email, or virtually. Communication is an indispensable component of a superior editing service.
b. Overall structural consistency:
If needed, in this phase of editing, I will retype, if necessary, and make sure your structure is developed in a logical sequence. This includes strengthening the relationship between ideas, helping to ensure the essence of your story is clear.
c. Voice and style:
Once your manuscript is structurally complete, we (you and I) work to enhance your distinctive voice and style, removing ambiguous or inappropriate words and phrases and replacing them with ones that are specific and apposite. This makes your writing more professional and more consistent, while maintaining your voice.
